LaFlow Reviews’ 88th Annual Academy Awards Predictions

oscars-2015

Here are my thoughts on who will win tonight at the Oscars…

Who will win

Who should win

Best Picture
The Big Short
Bridge Of Spies
Brooklyn
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Room
Spotlight

It’s really a three man race here between The Big Short, The Revenant, and Spotlight.  Though The Revenant has had a huge spike in the past few weeks, it seems Spotlight should still be able to keep the momentum it had at the beginning of awards season.  Also, The Revenant would probably be one of the worst Best Picture wins in a while if it won though its cinematography is strong.

Best Director
Lenny Abrahamson, Room
Alejandro G. Iñárritu, The Revenant
Tom McCarthy, Spotlight
Adam McKay, The Big Short
George Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road

This category is a bit clearer than the other ones as Innarritu has had quite a sweep in previous awards and will probably maintain that momentum here.
Best Actor
Bryan Cranston, Trumbo
Matt Damon, The Martian
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs
Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl

Leo isn’t losing tonight.
Best Actress
Cate Blanchett, Carol
Brie Larson, Room
Jennifer Lawrence, Joy
Charlotte Rampling, 45 Years
Saoirse Ronan, Brooklyn

Brie has done a great job racking up awards left and right and her powerful performance should easily be recognized one final time tonight.
Best Supporting Actor
Christian Bale, The Big Short
Tom Hardy, The Revenant
Mark Ruffalo, Spotlight
Mark Rylance, Bridge Of Spies
Sylvester Stallone, Creed

If Stallone hadn’t been nomnated here this category could be a lot tougher but with his surprise nomination and his veteran status in Hollywood this will be an easy win for him.
Best Supporting Actress
Jennifer Jason Leigh, The Hateful Eight
Rooney Mara, Carol
Rachel McAdams, Spotlight
Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl
Kate Winslet, Steve Jobs

Though the entire production has some flaws, Vikander is by far the best part of The Danish Girl and deserves a win here.  Though her role is clearly lead and not supporting.

For the remaining awards (note no opinion given on who should win in the Foreign Language, Documentary, or shorts given lack of proper viewing of the majority)…
